The birth of this institution stems from the undaunted vision and efforts of our Founder and Chancellor Dr,N.M.Veeraiyan, President of Saveetha Medical & Educational Trust. The legendary man had it in his mind’s eye, the vision to buld a model Dental College for the betterment of Dental education in this country.

From November 18th 1988, this institution has grown branched out, bloomed and born fruit in the form of dynamic doctors.

All the hurdles in the path of development of our college were met successfully as it progressed from strength to strength.

The Dental Institution under the able guidance of former Dean Prof.C.K.Dhansekaran and the dedicated efforts of the staff was started in the small temporary block of around 5000 sq.ft which included a dental clinic. The Basic Sciences Block was built in 1989. In 1992 the sophisticated OP department/clinics came into existence, which was followed shortly by the farewell of our 1st Batch of students in October 1993. A prestigious day in the history of this college dawned in 1995 – 96 academic year, when the post-graduate courses were started.

The construction of the two wings of the main Out patient Block was started in January 1997 to house a sophisticated Centrally Air-Conditioned Library.

The Dental college has been given the highest score among all dental colleges in the state by the High Level Committee appointed by Government of Tamil Nadu. The credits are still mounting as well recall the fact that University of Health Sciences, Andhra Pradesh has selected our college as a model Dental institution in the country. Today, with the approval of Royal College of Glasgow, for training the Part B &C MFDS students, our college has gained the students prestigious position of being recognized internationally. The dream has come true with the untiring efforts of the Management, Staff and Students of this college

The year 2005 witnessed an enormous growth towards our goal of excellence in dental education. The Saveetha Dental College and its other institutions were granted University status by University Grants Commission, which paves the way for autonomy in designing courses and improving the academic standards.

Immediately our Chancellor Dr.N.M.Veeraiyan set his eyes on revamping dental education. The graduate course in Dentistry has been given a new look by the introduction of new subjects like Fundamentals in Dentistry, Dental Armamentarium, Behavioral Sciences, Forensic Odontology, Implantology and Aesthetic. Dentistry. We hope the introduction of these subjects will infuse new blood into the system of Dental Education, which in turn will benefit the student community at large and improve vastly the scope of dentistry.
