Saveetha University was granted university status under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 on 18th march 2005. Previously governed by Saveetha Medical And Educational Trust,it is now governed by the Chancellor Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan and managed by the Vice Chancellor Dr. R. Rajagopal.
