Research Colloquium was organized by Research Division, SSE, on 21st October 2019. Research Presentation Series 1-4 was presented by professors of Department of CSE. Dr. S. Magesh, Professor, highlighted on “Proliferation of Cloud, AI and ML in real world businesses”. Dr. L. Rama Parvathy, Professor, enlightened the audience on “Multi objective optimization techniques” and familiarized the participants with the mathematical modeling of the objective function. Mr.Ashok kumar, Asst.Prof., discussed on the “Image occlusion detection” , the detection of the occuled images from photo and video frames. Dr. Mary Subaja, Associate Professor, presented on “Congestion Aware Routing Protocol for IoT Applications”
Dr. R. Krishnaveni,Professor, Department of Science and Humanities ( Chemistry division), Saveetha School of Engineering, Received the award for “Best Administrator - 2019” from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Educational Trust for Tribals. The awading ceremony was held at MAM School of Engineering, Trichy on October 15’2019, in commemoration of birth anniversary of our late Presiden, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Sri. S. Sivarasu, IAS, District Collector, Trichy was the chief guest and Dr. P. Kolanthaivelu, Vice Chancellor, Periyar University, was the Guest of Honour of the ceremony.

Workshop on “IPR and Patent Searching” was organised by Research Division, SSE, on 25th October 2019. The resource persons were Mr.M.Ajith Deputy Controller of Patents & Designs, Patent office, Chennai. and Dr.P.Sivakumar, Asso.Prof., REC. The resource discussed on the Overview on Intellectual Property Rights including Patents, Industrial Designs, Copyrights, Trademarks, conversation of the Research/Project works into Patents. Online training & demonstration on Patent Search for innovation and Review of Patent Applications were carried out. Participants were able to Identify and segregae the inventions and Write claim for inventions. Various formats of Patent Forms were discussed. Around 25 External Participants from various institutions and Universities and 45 Internal Participants attend the workshop.
Outcomes: 1. Faculty members understood the fundamental legal principles related to confidential information, copyright, patents, designs, trademarks and unfair competition. 2. Faculty members will be able to identify, apply and assess principles of law relating to each of these areas of intellectual property 3. Faculty members will be able to apply the appropriate ownership rules to intellectual property
Dr.David Bell, Pro Vice-chancellor of Teesside university and Dr.Kevin Thomas, Associate dean (International) for the school of health and life sciences from Teesside Uuniversity visited Saveetha School of Engineering on 14th October 2019. MOU was signed between SSE, SIMATS and Teesside Uuniversity.
During the meeting academic and research collaborations between both universities were discussed. As the outcome of the meeting both universities agreed for student and faculty exchange programme. Group of students from Saveetha School of Engineering will be visiting Teesside University soon as a part of Semester Abroad Programme and involve themselves in both academic and research activity. In addition Saveetha School of Engineering have signed MOU’S with more than 40 universities across the globe for the benefit of students.
A two day workshop on “Machine Learning” was conducted on 18.10.2019 and 19.10.2019 by the department of ECE. The Resource persons were Mr. Sabarinath Premlal, Director, Respro Labs and Ms.Sakunthala, Technical Assistant, Respro Labs. Faculty members from various institutions such as S.R.M Institute of Technology, St.Joseph’s Engineering College, and other engineering colleges around Chennai attended the workshop. The thirst for “Python” roped in more than 50 students from various colleges towards the event. The resource person focused on topics like Introduction to Python, Python Dictionaries, Data Types and Machine Learning Algorithms. The demo videos which he played related to the Python libraries gave an insight on the works which are being carried out in Python.
The training program for the preparation of Amateur Station Operator Certificate (ASOC) Exam was organized by HAM Radio Club on 23-10-2019. 26 faculty members from ECE department participated in the training program. Dr.P.Kalyanasundaram conducted the training program and elaborated the purpose of HAM Radio and the procedure to apply the license.
Internet of Things using Raspberry Pi &Python by Department of CSE&IT @Saveetha School of Engineering
A Workshop on “IoT Workshop on Internet of Things using Raspberry Pi &Python” was organized by the Department of CSE and IT on 19/10/2019 at CISCO Lab, Saveetha School of Engineering. The aim was to introduce the concepts of IOT using Python. The workshop was conducted for the by 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students of CSE and IT. 40 students were benefited out of this workshop session which rolled on for 45 hours. This workshop was conducted by Mr. Rajadurai Samuel and Mr. Jayakumar of Bright Tech Solutions, Chennai. The objective of the approach was to provide a hands on experience on IoT concepts to the students. Students were exposed to using tools such as Arduino, RaspberryPi & Nodemcu along with android phones and simple embedded project development. Android app development using MIT App Inventor and Data sharing especially Sensor based data across twitter platform were also discussed in the workshop.
Codeathon’19 was organized by the Department of CSE and IT of SSE,to provide an opportunity to enhance the coding skills of the students to develop an innovative solution for the complex problem. It was a forum to exhibit the talents of students for the coding contest with innovative ideas and interspersing with emerging technologies. Team effort, project management and time management were the major targets of the contest. The objective of forming team and working on a project gives the opportunity to work in a real time environment.
The event was conducted on 23rd October 2019 between 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM The participants were provided the option of choosing the domain and exhibit the proof of concept for the given problem in a stipulated time in which 32 teams participated. The Chief Guest Mr. Salaivanmuthu, Digital Program Manager, Cognizant Technology Solutions reviewed all the teams and judged the best teams. The prize winners were honored by the Chief Guest and were awarded with certificates and cash prizes worth Rs. 10,000/-.
