The objective of the Saveetha Tessellation Centre lies in the implementation of a digital workflow in all aspects of restorative and therapeutic dentistry. Computerized dentistry has advanced to such a degree of precision that it can completely supplant the use of manual techniques conventionally employed for the fabrication of restorative and prosthetic appliance. Another advantageous feature is the automation of the entire process involved in the fabrication method. This translates to minimal supervision during the fabrication process and a wider distribution of manpower resulting in more efficiency and productivity. Saveetha Tessellation Centre aims to establish a completely digital workflow for all aspects of laboratory Fabrication in all the specialities of dentistry. Breaking into the digital frontier, however, requires specialised equipment in order to procure, compile and process digital data for production purposes. To that end,we have installed state-of-the-art hardware supplemented by versatile software to further our objective.
The following section is a list of the hardware and software equipped at the Saveetha Tessellation Centre.
Scanners:
Scanners are required for real time translation of clinical objects or tissue into a digital model. Scanners can broadly be classified into intra-oral and extra-oral types. We are currently equipped with two intraoral scanner units and one extra-oral scanner unit.
Intra-oral Scanners:
- Medit i500 intraoral scanner
-3Shape Trios Scanner Intra-oral scanners aid in building digital models of the teeth and tissue intra-orally.
Intra-oral units can completely replace the need for conventional impressions and casts since the digital model can be stored in computers and can be directly sent to the lab for design and fabrication.
Extraoral Scanner:
-Medit T500 Lab Scanner Extra-oral scanners are also known as lab scanners. These units can scan impressions and models which are sent from the clinic and with the right equipment can even scan entire articulators with models mounted. These units are used for the fabrication of full arch splinted restorations or implant frameworks.
Design Software:
-3Shape Design studio – This software allows the design of crowns, bridges, splints, inlays, Onlays, RPD frameworks, mockup templates and digital wax ups. This is an open source software and can be paired with a 3d Printer or a milling machine for production of all the above mentioned units.
-3Shape Implant studio – This software allows the design of implant surgical stents as well as implant restorations
-3Shape Ortho appliance design – This software allows the design of ortho appliances such as those employed by Invisalign and Clear Aligners as well as conventional orthodontic appliances and splints.
-3Shape Model Analyser – This software allows the analysis and estimation of Orthodontic models and includes software for digital predictive analyses and sequential VTOs.
Production Units:
-Formlabs 2 3D Printer – 3D printing unit which employs Stereolithography to fabricate models. This 3D printer can print models out of waxes and resins. The unit at STC is currently used to prints models, stents, acrylic crowns and bridges.
CEREC MCXL Inlab CADCAM Unit – Chairside CADCAM Machine which can mill PMMA, Emax, Alumina and Zirconia crowns, 3 – Unit to 5 – unit bridges.
Imes-Icore Coritec i350 Milling Machine – This machine can mill waxes, resins, silicates, alumina, zirconia, Cobalt-chromium as well as titanium prostheses. It can alternately employ dry or wet milling depending on the type of material used.
