Teaching-Learning and Skills Acquisition Facilities at SIMATS

SIMATS hosts a massive and unique infrastructure encompassing teaching and training facilities. One of our primary beliefs as an education provider is that students and faculty learn and perform par excellence when they love the workplace. Ergo we have attempted to establish a workplace which provides comfort and convenience along with academic resources.

Our facilities are established over a sprawling campus of 181 acres with our institutions’ built upto 45 lakh square feet. Each classroom and clinic is wi-fi enabled and has an adjoining seminar hall for academic purposes. Our internet facilities are powered by 25 servers with 3 leased lines amounting to a cumulative 1 GBPS internet speed for peripheral data transfer. There are 300 classrooms and 72 seminar halls each of which hosts a computer connected to a projector and smart board unit. The campus-spanning high-speed wi-fi access along with our integrated digital visual system allows for seamless interactive classes and activities during our classroom sessions. There are 54 demonstration rooms, 2 simulation labs for laboratory and pre-clinical training of students and 275 staff rooms all of which are air-conditioned and internet enabled providing a soothing yet connected working environment.

There are 227 laboratories which include biochemical labs, preclinical and clinical laboratories as well as an Animal House for animal studies and 21 research cells and 3 dedicated research laboratories (White lab, Blue lab & Pink lab) for in-vitro and in-vivo studies. We are also equipped with a state of the art scanning electron microscope which can provide upto 0.5nm resolution imaging as well as a dynamic universal testing machine and a chewing simulator for educational and research purposes. Another sophisticated addition are our 3 CAD CAM milling machines and 5 3D printers (4 Resin printers and 1 DMLS unit) which allow us to teach digital fabrication methods to all our students in medical, dental and engineering domains.

Our VIRSA Lab houses 5 advanced haptic feedback based preclinical simulation units which are used to train and familiarise preclinical students on clinical exercises. The lab also contains 50 3Shape stations which allow digital design for dental prostheses to train our students in digital workflow in their clinical cases. In addition to these facilities, there are 6 digital design stations separately in three departments with a cumulative 18 additional design stations for post-graduate students. Geomagics software in 6 design stations has also been made available to train our post graduate students in designing custom frameworks for patients undergoing resective surgeries.

A dedicated skills lab in our medical college campus contains a wide array of simulators which are used to train our budding medical students on critical medical procedures. The Advanced Life Support mannequin allows advanced training in advanced cardiac life support protocols as well as practice emergency support for ventricular fibrillation and asystole scenarios. The Paediatric MegaCode Simulator paired with the SimPad System can help trainers implement training for a wide range of emergency skills including CPR, ACLS, trauma, first aid and child abuse awareness training in field, transport, and in-hospital settings. Birth Simulators allow for practice of steps taught to students during conduct of normal and difficult labor and the Intraosseous Trainer is designed for imparting training in infant intraosseous infusion techniques such as Intraosseous needle insertion, aspiration of simulated bone marrow. Needle and surgical cricothyrotomy skills can be practiced with interchangeable rigid and soft tracheas. The Airway Management Trainer’s lifelike mannequin allows for practice of oral and nasal intubation, Bag Mask Valve (BMV) Ventilation, Advanced airway (LMA, Combitube and ET tube insertion), Fiberoptic Airway insertion, Stomach inflation and vomiting situations.

There are 75 wards for inpatients with adequate facilities, nurse stations and attenders’ recreation rooms. There are 196 clinics to reduce waiting times for patients, 24 surgical operatories equipped with state-of-the-art surgical equipment enabling the highest quality in therapy at nominal charges. In addition to all these facilities, there are 2500 wards and surgical equipment in the Medical College and Hospital.

Our University has 16 museums which display a wide array of models and specimens. There are 54 libraries in total with complete digital records. We also host 2 highly equipped auditoriums with massive LED displays and can accommodate 1500 people. There are also 9 mini-auditoriums each of which can accommodate 200 people and are used to host continuing education programs. There are 3 Photography Studios which enable precise documentation of patients, clinical and laboratory procedures. Our other facilities include 3 drawing rooms, 8 placement cells, 1 moot court, 1 tutorial room,1 legal aid cell, student counselling cell and a women empowerment cell in each institution.

The equipment in our facilities rival that of a large-scale IT company in terms of digital communion to our academic workflow. For seamless integration of our proprietary MILA education system, we have installed approximately 3210 computers along with 190 Projectors & Smartboards and 12 Apple TVs.

We have also developed our own proprietary Academic Record Management System (ARMS) which houses all academic records of our students and faculty. It also serves to monitor attendance, annual courses, accounts, awards, extra-curricular activities and even our students' no-due eligibility by the end of the year. Our in-house DIAS software provides a flexible patient record  management system. Students record their patients’ details and treatment provided and their supervising faculty monitor their progression and procedural quality during their operative duration.

In our dental facility we host 500 DentalChairs which are fully equipped with functional evacuation units for efficient treatment of patients. There are 14 X-Ray rooms each equipped with an RVG unit for faster and unlimited radiographs. We are also the first and only institution in the entirety of India to host a CAD-CAM unit as well as a 3D printer for in-house production of advanced dental prostheses in our Tessellation Centre. Our radiology department also possesses a CBCT machine for Dental Implantology and Surgical treatment planning. Our combo clinic system contains 300 scaler units, 300 LC units and 400 articulators for each student to learn and perform gold standard dental therapy.
